Don’t Forget
A year into your IUD a cyst forms on your right ovary and your doctor schedules an ultrasound. The room is cold. The snaps on your hospital gown are cold. The tech administering the procedure is cold. A wand moves slowly over your belly and your inside appears on a screen, dark and empty. You cry.
You stop by the grocery store on your way home, and while checking out, the woman behind the counter places the carton of eggs to the side, intending to bag them at the end. You both forget and you turn to leave and she calls out, “Wait! Don’t forget about your eggs.”
